Pharmaceuticals

Italy counts one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical industries. Companies are able to combine the highest standards of quality, innovation, investments and productivity underpinning the sector’s development and attracting investments amounting to more than EUR 3 billion per year.

Medical devices

The sector features a high degree of market and product differentiation, which is essential for the development of both healthcare and the Italian economy. There are 2,523 production companies that, together with 1,643 distribution and 380 service companies, either produce or distribute medical devices in our country. The Lombardy region counts about 1,400 companies operating in areas such as in vitro diagnostics, home and digital care, and biomedical solutions.

Biotechnology

As key enabling technologies for many industries, biotechnology uses living organisms to develop products and processes, providing answers to many of the increasingly urgent public health needs of modern society. Biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics and vaccines are the three macro fields of application of biotechnology in the health sector. They provide extraordinary tools for prevention treatment and care.

Digital health

The term digital health brings together under a single definition all solutions, technologies and aspects of health related to the digital world. Priorities shared by the work group include various applications in education and health systems, as well as in the prevention of health-related disparities.

In order to ensure optimum health, it is essential to use state-of-the-art innovative technologies, besides encouraging the active participation and well-being of citizens by combining care and social aspects with de-hospitalisation policies, the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle, and healthy ageing.
